Better Diagnosis; Investigtions; Communicating With Your Doctor

The diagnostic process begins when you notice your symptoms that indicate something’s wrong, and you contact your doctor. Your physician will ask you about your health history. It is important to provide accurate and complete answers to your doctor’s questions. You need to share your full medical history transparently with the doctor. .

Usually for common ailments the doctor will be able to diagnose by your history and physical examination including checking your pulse, temperature and blood pressure etc. Your doctor may also order diagnostic tests to help. Tests range from simple blood tests and X-rays to more advanced tests like Ultrasound, CT Scan, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),.

These investigations help the doctor eliminate/ confirm what he/she may be suspecting is the underlying cause for the symptoms. Doctors interpret and analyse the information gathered from your description, physical exam, and any diagnostic tests performed. Consultation with specialists may sometimes be necessary to interpret results and determine treatments.

When a diagnosis is missed or delayed, the patient might not get the treatment they need in time. When this happens, 'a critical window is missed’ at times. . Missed and delayed diagnoses often result in more patient suffering and worsening the outcomes leading to unfavourable outcomes .

Diagnosis is the basis for any treatment you may receive, from drugs to surgery. An accurate diagnosis is critical to prevent wasting precious time on the wrong course of treatment. You play a crucial role in helping determine the correct diagnosis and treatment .

You should maintain your records comprehensively, so that the trajectory of the your condition, examinations and tests , diagnoses and other information is accessible in one place. Incorrect/ Mixed up records can lead to wrong diagnosis and treatment.

The doctors are always pressed for time and better communication with your doctor is the key to better and faster cure. It may be good to have a caretaker accompany you so that he/she can make notes regarding your discussions with the doctor. Do look at the prescription and check if you have any doubts .

While there is a lot of good information on the internet which will help you understand the functioning of body and treatment ,do not depend entirely on the internet or other people’s opinion about your diagnosis as each patient’s situation is different. It is best to see a doctor.
